The history of the village Wilkasy.

The village was established before 1493, because in this year commander from Pokarmin Melchior Köchler von Schwansdorf renewed old privilege for inhabitants of Wilkasy. The village was established around lakes: Wilkasy Małe (Small Wilkasy) and Wilkasy Duże (Large Wilkasy). The village leader was then Jan Górski. In 1625 according to account books of Giżyckie second level of local government administration in Wilkasy were living only Poles. Some time later Wierzbiccy from the polish aristocracy had here their wealth. In 1938 the name of the village was changed into (formally: Wilkassen) Wolfsee. It was a quite a big village then, fourth because of number of inhabitants estate in Giżyckie (after Giżycko, Ryna and Wydminy). 1167 people were living here in 1939. Wilkasy owned a school where three teachers were teaching. The village adjoined wealth Strzelce 404ha with distillery.
